Winter Wonderland

Snow!

I can say without a doubt that I have seen more snow in the last two weeks than I have seen in the last two years.

Aww, snow. Hello old friend. I do love you, snow, but I do tend to complain about you a tad. Like having wet feet, being cold, never looking cute in snow boots, and wearing three pairs of pants.

But, secretly, I love the snow. It's so pretty, and peaceful, and makes for good cozy afternoons with hot chocolate and a good book. Plus, the time off from work isn't bad either :)

Guess who else loves the snow?

Over the Holidays, B. and I went to Denver to visit our family and we got tons of good snow time. We went snowshoeing (in -7 degrees, thank you very much) and it was so fun. Beautiful actually. And yes, it was really, really cold but overall it wasn't so bad. I didn't complain that much about the temperature. (which was -15 on top of the mountain in case you were wondering.)

Here we are in Denver

Like I said, it's hard to look cute in -7 degrees

Yes. That's the wind blowing all the snow around!

Tally-Ho!

Hello everyone!

So, in keeping with my new mantra of "Tally-ho" this weekend was quite festive.

(did I not tell you about Tally-ho?) Well, I've adopted it as my outlook. My way to persevere, keeping my glass as half full, and continue the search....because no, in case you were wondering, no jobs yet. According to The Oxford English Dictionary, tally-ho is: an exclamation, a huntsman’s cry to the hounds on sighting a fox. The way I see it, this can directly be correlated to our lives...us, hunting, seeking...searching for our fox or place to live. See, it's all connected and I love it.

It should also be noted that I do have a slight obsession with reading books about Europe, and I may or may not have come across this term in one of those said books, and now I love it.

We are striving to keep our spirits as high as they can be, which during this time of year can be difficult if things in your life are not going as you had planned.

So, this weekend, in order to get fully into the Christmas spirit, we did some of our favorite Richmond traditions. Lights at the James Center, Christmas Concert at Derbyshire, and the Nutcracker. Whew. It was a busy weekend.

yes. It was cold. Really really cold.

So, Tally-ho dear Friends, keep your fingers crossed that we figure out soon where we will be living. In the mean time, I hope your weekend was just as festive!

Cupcakes!

Over the past few months I have slowly become obsessed with cupcakes. I love everything about them, and am happy to report that now Richmond has TWO cupcake bakeries!

Of course, I've been daydreaming about opening my own cupcake bakery and after going to the ones in town I feel strongly that I could do much better. (they were pretty, but not too tasty)

Anyway, since there is no news on the "where are we moving" front, I figured I could show off some of my beauties! Please keep in mind the crabs are an original design :)

And these were for a "New Moon" party I went to.....

I think these turned out just fantastic, they took a lot of work (thank you cupcake decorating team!) but looked just how I wanted them to be. I think they even turned out a little scary!

The New Albuquerque

Well. Hello friends. So, it seems that things have changed and now we are NOT moving to Albuquerque.

Huh. And we had this great blog all set up and everything.

Then today, I started thinking about this Big Drastic Change in our lives, and this blog, and everything that we had hoped Albuquerque to be. And I decided that I still wanted to have this blog, to keep our friends and family posted on our lives....even if it is not going to be out west.

So, I guess now this is where the adventure really begins. We have NO idea where we are going to move next. That's kinda exciting, isn't it? So, even though this adventure has changed, that doesn't mean it's not going to happen. We just don't know where, or when, or what. It'll be fun to see where this goes.

We'd love to have you along for the ride.

First Impressions

We were able to travel out to ABQ (Albuquerque) several weeks ago to check it all out. After a very long plane ride, (we now know that in Phoenix there is 3 hour time difference, whoops!) we arrive in New Mexico tired and exhilarated at the same time. I don't think either of us slept at all that night. It was funny to me that when we arrived to our new home, it was pitch black outside, we couldn't see a thing!

Well, once we woke up, excited to see all that ABQ had to offer, we felt a little let down. I mean, sure it's beautiful, but it is VERY different that the East Coast that we are used to. There are no trees, very little green, and the houses look so different. We knew this, of course, but to see it is a whole different ball game.

My first impressions were:

1. It's very flat

2. It's brown, brown, and brown

3. The city is very spread out

4. It looks like one big strip mall

So far, not so good, however, I am confident that once we are there, my impressions will change. And I am confident we will find lots of beauty in the area. And, truthfully I'm excited for this transformation!

Richmond to New Mexico

Well, it's official. We are moving to New Mexico! I certainly never imagined us, a newly wed couple from Virginia, moving 1,800 miles away from home, but we are. It's an exciting, terrifying, and wonderful thing, and we are glad you have decided to come along for the ride!
For your reading pleasure here are a few fun facts about our new home:
Official name for residents - New Mexicans
State bird- Roadrunner
State Motto - "Crescit eundo" - It grows as it goes
We are looking forward to all of the new adventures that lay ahead for us....
